The Federation Presidents and general secretaries in attendance

A meeting has this morning been held at the USSSA Offices at Old Kampala between the leadership of USSSA and Presidents and General secretaries of National Federations.

The meeting was chaired by Justus Mugisha, the USSSA President who thanked the federations for working with USSSA whenever called up.

In his opening remarks Mugisha appreciated the Presidents and secretaries for being present as this will ease communication further.

“Thank you for ensuring that there is technical expertise. We appreciate that you have always sent the referee and coaching instructors sent for capacity building programme and through this we have trained of 11,400 participants”.

Ambrose Tashobya, the Chairperson National Council of Sports, Sammy Odong, Assistant Commissioner Physical Education and Sports (Ministry of Education and Sports), Gunter Lang, Presidential Assistant Advisor on sports, Ms. Abalo Grace, Senior Education Officer were also in attendance.

Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi and Kyolaba Grace Viola were the USSSA Executive committee members present.

Nasiwu Sadic-Uganda Volleyball Federation President

“As Uganda Volleyball Federation we are very happy with the work you have done to uplift the game in schools. We are also grateful for the introduction of beach volleyball in schools. There are however a few issues we should bring to your attention, while the referees are always invited to officiate games they are not technical to decide pools and who faces who it is my request that more technical personnel are invited from federations to help avoid any confusion and not leave all the work to referees.”

Edgar Watson Ssubi –FUFA CEO

“We have a challenge as regards the calendar of the activities. The time is limited and even with the minimal funding we are required to have competitions which are spread so it is my request that competitions are spread over a longer period of time to enable us offer more support when required.”

Luwedde Shaninas –Uganda Woodball Federation Second Vice President

“As Wood ball federation we would like to thank the USSSA organizers for including our sport into their games and due to your games we had two participants selected to join the National team. We are also grateful that wood ball was part of the capacity building but we request that these invitations are sent to schools earlier for planning purposes”

She also hinted in changing the Title of the games from Non-FEASSA to a more suitable name as this discourages schools from participating.

Twesiime Liberty- Uganda Lacrosse President

“Lacrosse is on its pathway to the 2028 Olympics and being a part of this association now gives us a direct touch with the students who are the participants. Uganda is ranked number one in Africa and twenty ninth in the world.

We also request to be prioritized as regards planning and branding is concerned”

Sports like Woodball requested to be included in FEASSA games but in his response he made it clear that the games at this stage have every country presenting.

“We have taken Woodball to go and demonstrate to other countries but even after that the countries didn’t adopt the sport yet we cannot have just Ugandan schools competing against themselves.”  Concluded Mugisha
