We closely monitor these referees and they are performing well” Instructor Faizal Nsubuga hails young officials as another batch of USSSA capacity building gets underway.

The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association capacity building training for the year 2024 officially got underway in different centers across the country this week.

The 2024 capacity building training edition is ongoing in 6 centers namely; Lubiri Secondary School, Ntale School Mbarara, St Mary’s College Rushoroza, Ngora High School, Ndejje University and Ngora High School.

Special from previous years, new developments have been made including the introduction of sports facilities management course that is taking place at Ndejje University.

At Lubiri, a total of 183 participants (139 male and 44 female) are being trained in areas of football coaching and refereeing level i and ii, netball coaching and umpiring level ii, netball umpiring level i, volleyball refereeing and media.

Monday morning started with a briefing for all participants before heading to their respective classes for the start of business.

At 2:00PM, volleyball, football coaching and netball coaching classes had practicals at different facilities of Lubiri Secondary School.

Speaking to Faizal Nsubuga, the football referees’ instructor assured that these referees are closely monitored after their training.

“After the training, these participants are monitored within their respective districts and zones to assess their performance.“ Nsubuga started.

“We work with very many people who live closely with them and at times who deploys them for different tasks and they provide reports to us” Faizal added

The senior referee’s assessor added that their work as instructors is to produce great referees.

“We are working harder to sharpen their minds so that they can become great referees.” He ended.

Susan Nabatanzi, a teacher at The Amazima School in Buikwe believes that the course will help her to gain more skills in player management and proper game reading.

“Before i leave here i hope to have acquired knowledge on how to manage and relate with my players, it is by getting closer to them and becoming their friends so that i can know their strengths and their weaknesses.” Said Nabatanzi.

“I want to also learn proper game reading and also reading my opponents style of play so that i can see how to improve in my next game.” she added.
