Participants who gathered at Ntare school from 20 districts within and near Ankole zone were grateful for training moving closer to them.
The Capacity Building training at Ntare Schiool came to a close on 13th December 2024 and 106 participants were awarded their beginner certificates in football coaching and refereeing and volleyball coaching and refereeing.
“We are very grateful that this training program has been brought closer to us in Ankole region because if it had been held in Kampala, most of us would not be able to afford the transport logistics involved” Ayebare Pride Nyamwija, a student of electrical engineering at Uganda Technical College (Kahaaya), Bushenyi.

The training attracted a total of 106 participants from 20 districts namely Bushenyi, Bundibugyo, Hoima, Ibanda, Isingiro, Kabale, Kabarole, Kagadi, Kamwenge, Kanungu, Kasese, Kazo,Kiruhura,Lwengo,Masaka,Mbarara,Mitooma,Ntungomo,Rukungiri and Sembabule.
“While I am coaching already there is a lot more I have learnt through this training from Coach Lakony Tony Peter and I am now glad for my certificate from USSSA and Uganda Volleyball Federation.” Okwalinga Julius, Volleyball Coach Kazo SS.

The participants were also grateful to Kabwegyere Dauglas an executive committee member representing Ankole zone for always mobilizing them through their respective schools. Kabwegyere Dauglas together with his committee has done a tremendous job as regards USSSA activities and competitions. It was for this reason that Ankole Zone was commended several times by Mugisha Justus, USSSA President during the 42nd Annual General meeting held on 7th December 2024.
Dauglas Kawegyere amidst all the praises from the participants, advised them to keep working hard and practicing for the next levels if called upon.
Akankunda Bridget, who just completed her senior six examinations at Boni Consilli Girls’ Vocational SS is one of the students that has been through level 1,2 and CAVB volleyball refereeing courses since December 2022 to February 2024 all with the support of USSSA to whom she is grateful. Akankunda has officiated at USSSA competitions this year all the way from the zone to the Nationals.

The program was introduced with the sole purpose of skilling teachers and students in various disciplines and this is the fourth time it has been held in Mbarara between now and 2022.
