The National Boys Football Championship has been officially opened this afternoon in Ngora.
The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Ngora District Jacinta Ayo. Other guests included Assistant Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports Sammy Odong, Former ASSHU President, Brother Augustine Mugabo, Justus Mugisha, USSSA President and Ngora District Woman MP, Stella Isodo Apolot.
The event started with an opening prayer and words of encouragement from Rt. Rev. Michael Okwii Esakahn, the Bishop of Kumi Diocese.

In his speech, Opolot Eliphaz, the Head Teacher Ngora High School welcomed all schools and appreciated USSSA and the government for developing schools’ Sports.
“I would like to thank USSSA for the opportunity to host these games and for developing sports in the country. We thank the gorvemnet for the continued support towards the school.”

USSSA President, Justus Mugisha applauded the Performance exhibited by the capacity building referees who are officiating at this championship.
“We have 64 schools and 1600 athletes who will compete for this year’s title. I want to inform you that the officials at this championship are our capacity-building products who are performing well both here and at the international level.”

The Chief Guest, urged teams to put in hardwork, players to remain disciplined and showcase their talents.
I would like to remind you to put in hardwork but also stay disciplined, this is a platform showcase your talent and it will pay you. I want to urge parents to support their children to participate in Sports.”

On the official opening fixture of the tournament, hosts Ngora High School fell to Wakiso based Kyadondo SS 1-0 in a well attended game played at Ngora High School Playground.
Thomas Ogema scored the only goal to confirm a knockout slot for Kyadondo.
Games continue tomorrow on different grounds and they will mark the end of group stages.
