Coach Marvin Sselwanga is confident his swimmers will deliver the goods when the swimming events start at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) School Games in Annaba, Algeria today.
It is mostly a sprint day for the swimmers, who have had to adjust to the humid temperatures and long course pool.
“We have encouraged them to hydrate and eat lots of fruits to ensure they are not dehydrated,” coach Sselwanga said.
“Everything has been moving on smoothly. Our only challenge has been the need to act fast in order to get some training time in the pool because the numbers across all teams are many.”
“It is also a long course pool of 50 metres and the swimmers have to adapt as we mostly have 25 metre pools back in Uganda,” Sselwanga added.
Team Uganda captain Paula Nabukeera and her colleague Abigail Mwagale take part in the girls’ 50m freestyle.
Elijah Wamala joins Joshua Mandre in the boys’ 50m butterfly before the latter also takes part in the 100m backstroke alongside Emaad Kodet Tumusiime.
Tumusiime will also show his middle distance abilities in the 200m breaststroke.
