



Jinja SSS girls won their final game against Kenyan side Kinale 10-05.This year’s rugby sevens had 6 girls’ teams namely Nkoma SSS (Uganda), Jinja SSS (Uganda) and four Kenyan sides. The teams played a round robin format.
Jinja SSS had to wait till their game against Kenyan side Kinale to be assured of a gold medal. Jinja fought tooth and nail scoring two tries while opponents Kinale’s single try wasn’t enough for them.

St. Peters Mumias are the gold medalists, while Bungoma and Bwake settled for silver and bronze respectively. Makerere College finished 5th, St. Mary’s College Kisubu in 6th,London College of St. Lawrence, Maya 7th,Mbarara High 8th and Rwanda’s Gitisi was 9th.
On the other hand the rugby sevens boys’ teams found tough competition and below is what some of them had to say.
“The competition has been quite tough and challenging, but we are glad we had a few wins” Bwambale Anoha ,a senior four student of London College and the team’s Vice-captain.
“We didn’t expect the results we got, the competition has been tough. There are some schools I think we should have beaten” Ssemanda James ,senior 6 student and captain London College of St. Lawrence
“We started off badly losing to Koyonzo (Kenya) 52-0 but as we went on we picked up a few lessons “.Ogwete George Ian ,a senior 5 student at Makerere College school and the team’s vice-captain.
“As a team we have learnt to listen more to our coach because most of the times everyone wants to play based on individual brilliance which has cost us terribly”. concluded Ogwete
“The competition started off tight but it has been a good one because we are the Ugandan side that has won the most games” Mujuni Abraham Trevor,senior 5 student at Makerere College school and also the team’s Captain.
“This year’s East African games have been so tough, especially on the side of Ugandan teams. Our Kenyan opponent seem to have prepared well enough to ensure a sweep but good enough the girls of Jinja SSS have won gold medal in rugby 7s”.
