USSSA Condoles with the Victims of Terrorist Attack on Lhubirira Secondary School

Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family members, relatives, friends, and the entire school community affected by the recent terrorist attack on Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, located just 2 kilometers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border. The attack, carried out by ADF rebels, has left the nation in shock and mourning.

In the horrifying incident that unfolded last night, the Uganda Police reported a terrorist attack on Lhubirira Secondary School. The rebels set fire to a dormitory and looted a food store within the school premises. The consequences of this senseless act of violence have been devastating. To date, the authorities have recovered the bodies of 25 victims from the school, which have been transferred to Bwera Hospital. Additionally, eight individuals remain in critical condition and are receiving urgent medical attention at the same hospital.

Following the attack, the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) and the police have launched a joint operation to apprehend the perpetrators. The pursuit is currently underway towards the Virunga National Park. The security forces are determined to bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice.

During this time of immense grief and sorrow, USSSA stands in solidarity with the families who have lost their loved ones and extends prayers and thoughts to those who have been injured. The association acknowledges the profound impact this tragedy has had on the affected community and offers its support and condolences to all those affected.

USSSA urges the government, security agencies, and the public to prioritize the safety and security of educational institutions across the country. Measures must be put in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, ensuring that students can learn and thrive in a safe environment.

As more details of the attack emerge, Uganda Police will provide updates and further information to the public. In the meantime, the association calls upon the nation to unite, offering support and strength to those affected by this tragedy.
