Rabat, Morocco – The Ugandan delegation, led by President Emeritus Patrick Okanya, marked their return journey back home on Monday morning after an exhilarating experience at the 2023 ISF World Schools Championships (Football) held in Rabat city, Kingdom of Morocco.
The delegation, which also included three referees among over 80 officials who handled the games from start to finish, celebrated their achievements at the University of Rabat with a routine team briefing at approximately 11 AM.
President Okanya took the opportunity to commend the players and officials for their exemplary discipline, teamwork mentality, and fair-play spirit throughout the 14th edition of the championship. He addressed the delegation, stating,
“I want to thank you for the good discipline showed since we came here (Morocco). The fighting mentality, teamwork, and fair-play element were also highly exhibited, and I want to commend you for that.”
After the briefing, the group embarked on an hour-long road trip from Rabat city to Casablanca city, where they connected to Dubai for an overnight stay before continuing their journey back to Uganda.
The delegation is expected to land at Entebbe International on Tuesday, 1st August 2023, at 2:30 PM. A grand welcome awaits them, followed by an official luncheon at Imperial Golf Hotel, Entebbe
St Noa Girls School – Zzana, Kibuli Secondary School, and Amus College School represented Uganda at the prestigious games. St Noa Girls School Zzana showcased their prowess and earned a well-deserved bronze by defeating Germany 2-0 in the third-place play-off match.
Amus College and Kibuli S.S gave it their all and secured the 17th and 22nd places, respectively, out of 28 countries participating in the tournament. Amus College’s remarkable performance led to their victory against Nigeria with a 2-1 score at the FUS Rabat sports complex during the 17th/18th place play-off.
Kibuli S.S, in an intense encounter, lost 5-6 to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after a goal-less normal time.
The outstanding striker of Amus College, Allan Oyirwoth, finished as the tournament’s top scorer with an impressive tally of 10 goals.
The championship’s overall winners were France and China 1, who clinched the boys’ and girls’ trophies, respectively.
Ukraine (girls) and Mexico (boys) teams earned well-deserved recognition for their fair-play spirit, taking home the respective Fair Play Awards.
Looking forward to the future, China is set to host the 2024 ISF WSC football championship in Dalia city, from 17th to 27th May.
As Uganda’s delegation returns home with heads held high, the nation celebrates their achievements, and their triumphs serve as inspiration for aspiring young athletes across the country.
