St. Mary’s College Kisubi are on the cusp of winning the boys’ rugby 15s title at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Huye, Rwanda.
This follows a nail-biting 18-12 over the highly billed Kenyan side Butula on Thursday.
Hisham Kabanda, Benjamin Mukisa and Darren Aine scored tries while Mathew Musasizi scored a drop goal for Smack. Smack went into the halftime break leading 8-7.
Butula’s Derrick Ouma and Emmanuel Adoyo were on the score-sheet too. Melvin Wekesa converted one of their tries to ensure the first half left fans on the edges of their seats.
Smack, who have now won three on the trot, have to ensure they win in the final game against St. Anthony on Saturday morning to carry the trophy back to Kisubi.
“It was a tight game but we got the victory that we deserved,” Smack captain Michael Musiimenta said in the aftermath of the game before adding that “we know Saturday’s game is a must win and we are in good shape to make it happen.”
Jinja out
But while gold is possible for Uganda in the 15s, bronze can only be the best outcome in the 7s, where Jinja SS lost 17-07 to Kenya’s Koyonzo in the semifinals.
Nice seeing this happening
