The USSSA president Justus Mugisha has thanked the zonal chairpersons and secretaries for the good work they are doing at zonal levels during a planning meeting held on February 15th,2024 at the USSSA offices in Old Kampala.

In his address, Justus Mugisha the President mentioned the following.

Uganda to Host FEASSSA games at Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College College.

“I would like to remind you that Uganda is hosting the East Africa Secondary games (FEASSSA) in the Eastern Region this year. Bukedea Comprehensive will co-host together with Amus College School. The two schools have invested heavily to put facilities in place including a swimming pool and an arena that can accommodate about 4000 spectators. This is good because the facilities have been put up within the schools and can always be used for any other school tournaments.”

ISF Events

Mr. Mugisha informed the members present of all the ISF events that Uganda will be taking part in and reminded them why it is important to prepare early enough for international events.

“For example we will selected 48 athletes out of 72 who attended the training in January for the ISF World Cross Country championship in Nairobi but the participants will definitely require to have processed for them early enough so maximum cooperation is important for all of us.”

Online registration

The USSSA online registration portal opened on 1st January and will close on February 29,2024 and only athletes born on or after January 1st 2004 will be registered on the portal as explained by Emmanuel Kasakya, Director of Competitions, USSSA.

On Capacity Building Mugisha appreciated the secretaries for constantly mobilizing participants to take part in the training. Over seven thousand participants have been trained since December 2022 to January 2024.

“We have trained over 7000 participants in the past year at several venues. We are very pleased with the turn up. There are provisions for participants to advance to the next level. For example, football refereeing had 41 participants trained for Level II in January 2024 at Kibuli SS and these referees were deployed at the recent Elite games in Jinja afterwards. With your co-operation all Beginners’ courses training will be organized at district level and only Level II organized at National level except for sports that whose participants remain fewer. We as USSSA will facilitate the instructors as well as branding and anything else you may need.” Justus Mugisha, USSSA President.

Members had an interactive session in which they gave feedback to the Presdient and his Executive Committee.

“The people of Busoga are grateful for the opportunity to host the 2024 USSSA Elite Games, it was a one of a kind event that despite rival schools playing in the final, there were no indiscipline cases from both the athletes and the fans”. Musota Daniel, Chairman Busoga Zone.
