UPSSA DECIDES 2024

The Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association acquired a new leadership team for the term 2024 to 2028. This follows the successful voting process which transpired during the UPSSA Elective Assembly at Front Page Hotel Zzana on Thursday 21st March 2024.

The event was meant to provide platform for the UPSSA Delegates to elect the National Executive Committee of the association for the next 4 years. Delegates from allover the country, from all the 19 Zones were present to make their votes count. The Zones are Central, Kampala, Kigezi, Bukedi, Busoga, Ankole, Masaka, Lango, Luweero, Bunyoro, Rwenzori, Teso, Sebei, Acholi, Bugisu, Mukono, Mpigi, Wakiso and West Nile.

The Elective Assembly was graced by Sammy Odong the Assistant Commissioner Physical Education- Ministry of Education and Sports who was the chief guest. Grace Abalo the Senior Education Officer accompanied the Commissioner.

Other officials that were present at the UPSSA Elective Assembly include: Justus Mugisha – President, USSSA Hajji Twahil Kiteezaala -1st Vice president USSSA Mugisha Christopher Banage – CEO, USSSA Gilbert Orikiriza – Desk Officer For Primary Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports Patrick Okanya – President Emeritus and UPSSA returning officer

Sammy Odong, the chief guest emphasized and stressed the importance of the association among other factors.

“Primary is the base, so as the ministry we take this organisation so seriously. I thank you for going through the constitutional review that led to this here. Sport is for everyone so if you are coming in to serve please serve voluntarily with the whole of your heart.”

The president of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Justus Mugisha was overjoyous and greatful on making the opening remarks of the assembly.

“It was a great pleasure for the USSSA and the Ministry of Education and Sports to organize and mobilise resources for this transition of UPSSA. The new leadership will face very many challenges but as the USSSA we shall be there to guide and help because we have also faced the same challenges and designed solutions.”

However, all these preceded the core purpose of the day. The voting process followed with returning officer Patrick Okanya taking complete charge in the activity all deemed ‘fair and transparent. The results and various positions are presented in the next article.
