ANOCA GAMES 2025: Uganda’s Luwooza Imran falls short in table tennis quarterfinal thriller.

Uganda’s, Luwooza Imran of Seroma Christian High School, put up a brave fight in the quarterfinals of the ANOCA School Games in Algeria but narrowly missed out on a semifinal slot, falling 3:4 to Ghana in one of the tournament’s most intense encounters.

Having dominated Group B and comfortably cruised through the round of 16, Luwooza entered the quarterfinals in high spirits.

He faced a determined Ghanaian opponent in a seven-game thriller that kept fans at the edge of their seats.

Imran snatched the first game 12:10, however, Ghana’s Mensah responded strongly, taking the second 11:9. The seesaw battle continued, with Imran reclaiming the lead 11:9 before Ghana fought back once more to tie it at 2–2 with a 12:10 win.

Both athletes were relentless, each claiming one more game—Imran with another narrow 11:9 win and Ghana leveling again at 3–3 with 12:10.

In the decisive seventh game, it was heartbreak for Uganda as Mensah edged it 11:9, sealing a narrow 4:3 victory.

Team Uganda remains optimistic, with focus now turning to other events and team performances. For Luwooza, this marks the end of the road at the inaugural edition of these games but will also feel proud of his performances despite falling short in a game which could have gone either way.
