The athletics track came alive as the 2025 USSSA Ball Games II officially kicked off at King George Stadium in Tororo with a great display of speed and talent in the 200m heats for both boys and girls. All the excitement at the stadium was sponsored by performances from standout young athletes representing various zones across the country.
The official opening ceremony was presided over by Hajji Bategana Sadiq, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Tororo District who declared the Ball Games II, mind games and athletics officially open. In his remarks, the chief guest inspired the athletes by celebrating Uganda’s rich legacy in athletics, referencing national legends such as John Akii-Bua, Joshua Cheptegei, Stephen Kiprotich and many others who have flown Uganda’s flag high on the international stage.
In the boys’ category, zones like Bunyoro, Mukono and Acholi were the ones to watch, each producing winners in the highly competitive 200m heats.
In the girls’ races, Mpigi, Bunyoro and Acholi stole the spotlight.
Awat Mary from Mpigi lit up Heat 4 with the fastest time of the day among girls with 24.6 seconds, an outstanding performance that raised the bar early.
With athletics only just beginning, anticipation builds for the finals and other upcoming events on the track and field calendar.
