A delegation of officials from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi has on Tuesday, 18th June 2024 visited the facilities at the two host schools of this year’s FEASSSA Games in Bukedea region.

The inspection at Bukedea Comprehensive school and Amus College included the sports amenities, accommodation, medical, transport, administrative facilities and other utilities as water and electricity.

The Commissioner of physical education and sports in the ministry of education and sports Rev. Dr. Canon Duncans Mugumya was the chief guest during the inspection.

Rev. Dr. Mugumya, also the vice president of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) represented the minister of state for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang.

‘We are impressed by the facilities at both Bukedea Comprehensive and Amus College. This is a step in the right direction for Uganda’s sports to blossom. We believe that with the remaining time to come, the facilities will be polished up to have the best games” Rev. Dr. Canon Mugumya stated.

FEASSSA and USSSA president Justus Mugisha who chaired a plenary session at the Wash and Wills Hotel, Mbale city before the inspections briefed the members of the delegation about the entire developments.

He confirmed that the games village will be in Bukedea Comprehensive with all the girls accommodated at Bukedea Comprehensive whilst the boys will be at Amus College School with each having the ability to host over 2000 students.

Mugisha also notified about the special needs games village and the secretariat which is proposed to be at Amus College School.

Uganda is ready to host the 2024 FEASSSA Games and this will be the first time that such games are played on facilities put in place entirely by school management. This is a milestone for FEASSSA as the sports facilities in place will also be used by other sports federations in the country, the region and on the continent. There is a race against time to have the facilities polished up which is achievable” Mugisha hinted.

Mugisha confirmed that the nation and cultural festivities will be held for all the schools from the different countries which will take part in the championship; a reason why these games have been extended from 10 to 11 days.

The inspection team also put into consideration other aspects as security of athletes, access to medical services and other essential utilities as electricity and water.

David Ngugi, the general secretary of FEASSSA lauded the management of Bukedea Comprehensive and Amus College with special caution to speeden up the process of putting up the facilities

“As FEASSSA, we remain impressed by Bukedea Comprehensive and Amus College for putting in place such sports facilities. This is the first time that schools in FEASSSA region construct facilities specially for the games. There is however need to speed up the constructions and the necessary finishings to have the games successfully held. We shall have a plenary session on Wednesday for a Plan B in case the facilities fail on time” Ngugi remarked.

There are 17 competition grounds for the 2024 FEASSSA Games with a state of art swimming pool, in-door facility and a football stadium being constructed at Bukedea Comprehensive.

Five football grounds have been put up at Amus College School including four natural grass pitches and the main astro turf stadium.

The games will commence on 16th August and run until 27th August 2024.
