CAF African Schools: SMASK and Kawempe Embark on CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya – The excitement is palpable as Team Uganda arrives in Nairobi for the eagerly awaited CAF African Schools CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers Kenya 2023. The formidable delegation comprises Kawempe Muslim SSS (Girls) and St. Mary’s Boarding SS Kitende (Boys), both teams led by the experienced Hajji Hussein Lwebawo.

Ensuring the safety of the players is a top priority, as confirmed by Hajji Hussein Lwebawo, the Leader of the Delegation. “I confirm that our teams are safe and both accommodated at different hotels in Nairobi – Kenya. St. Mary’s Boarding is accommodated at Sun Star Hotel, and Kawempe Muslim SSS is ready to compete after settling in at Utalii Hotel,” Lwebawo assured.

The championships, scheduled from December 10th to 13th, 2023, will bring together talented young athletes under the age of 15 from different parts of East Africa, including Uganda, to showcase their skills and passion for football.

Last year’s championships saw Royal Giant High School clinching victory in the Boys’ category, while Amus College-Bukeddea secured third place in the Girls’ category. Kawempe Muslim SSS and St. Mary’s Boarding Kitende earned their places in the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers Championships after triumphing in the national ball games II tournament held in Kabale for girls and boys, respectively.

Expressing confidence in his team, Male Daniel, the head coach of St. Mary’s Kitende, emphasized the extensive training the team has undergone. “I have prepared enough because we have been working on their attitude and mentality since we are going to a foreign country,” said Male upon reaching Kenya.

On the other hand, Moses Nkata, the head coach of Kawempe Muslim, is optimistic about the girls’ performance. “Based on the training and the similar weather to that in Uganda, I am sure the performance will be good; we are just waiting for the kick-off,” Nkata confirmed.

The leadership of the delegations includes Hajji Hussein Lwebawo, Mutebi Julius as the Media Officer for Kawempe Muslim SSS, and Mulajje Ronald as the Head of Delegation for St. Mary’s Boarding Kitende. With dedicated coaches, trainers, and players on board, Team Uganda is poised for success in the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, aiming to make their mark on the international football stage.
