Uganda representatives at this year’s edition of the CAF schools football U15 championship ongoing at St Mary’s Kitende, Uganda, St Marys Boarding School Kitende and St Noa, have started on a good note.
Anastasia Mbeita scored a brace including a last-minute gasp to help the Uganda champions to a 2-1 win over Burundi in the two sides’ first game played on Tuesday evening.

The win saw the hosts go joint top of the table with Tanzania, but the Tanzanians top the four-team table with a better goal difference after trouncing Rwanda 5-1 in the first game.
The boys’ category saw Nabiru Kajumba’s last-minute strike saw Kitende overcome a resilient Somalia with a 1-0 win for a good start to a category that pulled 5 teams.

And the hosts went on to remain unbeaten in two games and top of the table, after settling for a 0-0 stalemate with Rwanda, in a game Kitende ruined more scoring opportunities.
Kitende enjoys the top of the five-team table with four points, following a 0-0 draw between Tanzania and Somalia.

“We have started well as defending champions and our main aim in this competition is to win it again and represent East Africa at the continental level like we did last year,” Said Kitende coach Michael Kabali.

Kitende will complete their matches on Wednesday when they play against Tanzania in the morning and then Burundi in the evening, as they wait for the tally of results on Thursday to determine the winner.
In the girls category, St Noa play their second game against Tanzania on Wednesday, and on Thursday, they will climax the campaign against Rwanda.

The competition is played in a league format and the team with the most points in each category will be the champion to represent the Zone at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals set to take place next year at a venue to be named.
