CAF: Uganda’s St. Mary’s Kitende and Kawempe Muslim Secondary School Set for CAF African Schools championship -Zanzibar

After their impressive performance at the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers last year, St. Mary’s Kitende and Kawempe Muslim Secondary School are now set to represent the CECAFA region at the 2024 CAF African Schools Championship.

The girls’ team from Kawempe Muslim Secondary School secured their spot after defeating Kenya 2-1 in the final. Shaluwa Butini and Shadia Nabirye scored crucial goals, with Kawempe’s Huda Ayikeru named the best goalkeeper and Shadia Nabirye taking home the top scorer award.

St. Mary’s Kitende, meanwhile, emerged victorious in the boys’ category after a thrilling match against Tanzania. The team won 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, with Simon Wanyama earning the top scorer award for the boys.

The CAF African Schools Championship will be held in Zanzibar from May 21st to 24th, with the Ugandan teams expected to arrive on May 20th.

The championship will take place at the recently refurbished Amaan Stadium, with CAF President Dr. Motsepe and several African football legends in attendance.This prestigious tournament provides a platform for young athletes to compete internationally and develop their skills.

The Ugandan teams are eager to make a lasting impact at the championship, building on their success at the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers last year.With their sights set on the top prize, St. Mary’s Kitende and Kawempe Muslim Secondary School are ready to face the best teams from across Africa and make Uganda proud.
