USSSA Capacity Building: December Workshops Get Underway in Three Venues.

The Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Capacity Building has started at three venues across the country.

The participants who arrived on 10th December 2023 are to both study and reside at Kibuli SS in Kampala, Ntare School in Mbarara, and Lira Town College in Lira.

The inaugural training was held at Kibuli SS in December 2022 and January 2023. It was later rolled out to Teso Region in February 2023 at Teso College Aloet and Mbarara to Primary school Teachers at St. Mary’s Vocational School in September 2023.

The participants who arrived on 10th December 2023 are to both study and reside at Kibuli SS in Kampala, Ntare School in Mbarara, and Lira Town College in Lira.

The training that starts on 11th December will end on 17th December where participants will be awarded certificates of attendance and merit by the respective federations.

Participants will be trained in several disciplines as coaches or referees in Netball, Athletics, Volleyball, Handball, and Media.

The centers in Mbarara and Lira are facilitating only football coaching and refereeing while all those in other disciplines are at Kibuli SS.

A total of 298 participants had arrived by Sunday evening with football coaching and refereeing having the highest numbers at 60 and 70 respectively. There are 66 participants in Lira while Mbarara has 97 both for football coaching and refereeing.

A new course has been introduced in First Aid and Injury under the instruction of Isaac Gabriel Otuk of the Fitness Health and Nutrition Sports (FHNS) Brand. An entity that ensures not only player safety but also looks to skill the fans that surround these sports. FHNS also seeks to see that stakeholders have access to health care services.

Nakanwagi Annet a nurse from Wakiso expects to get a better understanding of how to handle Injuries in other sports.

“I work as a nurse  in rugby but I would like to learn how different sports injuries are handled especially on the pitch.” Said Nakanwagi.

Murungi Diana is a participant from Kabarole and  FIFA Referee who is training in Netball Coaching where she would like to understand the basic coaching skills and techniques.

“I would like to understand better the usage of digital media in the modern world ”Nankya Sauda, a teacher of English and Literature at Kawanda SS.

The training will continue in January 2024 in Gulu, Arua, and Kampala as communication will be made.
