CAPACITY BUILDING: Wakiso District Forms Trainees Association, Elects Leadership

Known for it’s hard work and winning aspect, Wakiso District has always taken lead in new innovations which has kept them a top zone in USSSA

Today 19th February 2025, WAKISHA invited students who have USSSA capacity building certificates in different disciplines to converge for a strategic meeting to make sure all trainees are given opportunities and exposed. The meeting was held at Wakiso Resource Center from 3PM chaired by the zone chairman Gerald Katamba and was graced by the District Sports Officer Ssenyonga Brian Charles as the chief guest.

Ssenyonga appreciated USSSA for the program, he encouraged students to be passionate and give their all during work. He called for integrity in their services and promised support from his office to the district and the zone. However Ssenyonga challenged the district to also promote other games like Tennis, Badminton not only football.

The meeting attracted students and teachers from Standard High School Zzana, Boston High School, St Augustines High School, Mbogo Mixed High School, Sacred Heart SS, Oxford High School and Amity Secondary School in areas of netball, football, athletics and media.

Association Formed

During his address the zone chairman made it clear that the decision to utilize capacity building trainees came from the headteacher’s meeting that was held earlier on 15th February 2025.

He urged students to start officiating the inter-classses and other school tournaments to gain more experience before 24th March 2025 when the games will be kicking off.

Furthermore, Katamba promised the trainees a refresher course that will be held this year and also confirmed to them that they are the number one priority when it comes to all school sports championships including the weekend leagues which will take place in every sub-zone of Wakiso.

The association formed will be for all Wakiso District students who have undergone through the USSSA capacity building training at different levels and in different schools

The association will aim at bringing together all trainees and giving an opportunity to everyone during the district and zonal championships starting with this year.

The students later elected an Executive Committee of 6 people who with immediate effect will run the association for the next year. The EXCOM comprises of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Mobilizer and the Media Officer.

Wakiso District Other New Strategies

In bid to reclaim their supremacy, Wakiso has embarked to early preparations including the scheduling of their calendar and appointing technical people in all departments.

Wakiso Zone will kick off with Basketball on 20th March and is to be hosted by either Elite High School Entebbe or Buddo Secondary School with the confirmation coming up soon.

Later on 24th, boys and girls football will get underway in all zones and run up to 2nd April.
