Champions St Noa, St. Mary’s – Kitende win big at CAF Schools championship. – CAF SCHOOLS

Girls’ champions St Noa are 100,000USD (Shs. 360m) richer courtesy of CECAFA Zone Qualifiers cash prize, following their triumph at this year’s edition of the CAF African Schools U-15 football Championship CECAFA zone at St Mary’s Stadium on Thursday.

Runners up and hosts St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende have secured 75,000USD (about 275m), a cash prize. The Uganda champions and representatives St Noa emerged champions of the five day tournament after piping Tanzania on goal difference.

The Zzana based side was faultless against Rwanda, beating them 8-0 for a massive nine- goal difference goal which gave them immunity over Tanzania. The two teams finished on seven points after having played to a nil-nil draw on Wednesday 11th , but the goal difference separated them.

St Noa now emulates Kawempe Muslim, who won the event hosted in Nairobi Kenya last year and will be heading for the CAF event as CECAFA representatives at a hosting venue to be named.

In the boys’ category St. Mary’s Kitende was pipped by Tanzania also on a goal difference of one, after both finished on 6 points, Tanzania pipped Uganda to the title having beaten Rwanda 2-0 to better their goal difference. However, Kitende will join Tanzania while St Noa will also be joined by Tanzania girls to represent CECAFA region at the continental championship due in March next year at a venue to be named.

Other awards saw St Noa goal keeper Haira Nabbosa and attacker Brenda Nassaka won the tournament best goal keeper and top scorer accolades respectively with skilled Nassaka having scored 4 goals all against Rwanda in the team’s 8-0 win. St Mary’s Kitende captain and striker Ashraf Kyakuwa was named Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The tournament that was played on a round robin with the team with the most points emerging the winner, attracted 5 boys teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi and Somali and 4 girls teams from Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and hosts Uganda.
Besides action on the pitch, CAF also organized several workshops that run alongside the tournament including; Coaching Programme, Young , Young Reporters Programme, and Safeguarding.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship is supported by the Motsepe Foundation with partnership between CAF, African Governments, Member Associations and Schools.
