For school sports for better

Elite High School’s Rise to Sports Prominence

In the heart of Uganda, Elite High School has been on a remarkable journey to become a powerhouse in school sports. The catalyst for this transformation was their participation in the ISF World Schools Basketball Championship in Macao, China, in 2024.

This experience not only broadened the students’ horizons but also gave them a glimpse into world-class sports facilities. Inspired by what they saw, the school’s administration embarked on an ambitious project to upgrade their sports infrastructure.

Today, Elite High School boasts three professional basketball courts, an indoor arena, and a state-of-the-art football stadium that’s nearing completion. These facilities have not only enhanced the students’ athletic experience but have also positioned the school as a hub for sports development in the region.

The school’s sports program has been on a roll, with impressive performances in local competitions. In the Wakiso Zonal Basketball Qualifiers that kicked off today, Elite High School’s boys’ team emerged victorious with a 47-6 win over St. Jonah, while the girls’ team triumphed 24-8 over Trinity College Nabingo.

Head Teacher Lawrence Onyango attributes the school’s success to the lessons learned from their international experience. “Representing Uganda in Macao, China, gave us a thousand lessons. We saw world-class sports facilities, and we’re working tirelessly to replicate that here.”

Head Coach Akech Wuoi is optimistic about the team’s prospects, saying, “This is the year we hope to participate at the national level. We’ll take it one game at a time, and with each victory, we’ll grow stronger and more confident.”

Elite High School is now hosting the Wakiso Zonal Basketball Qualifiers, which will climax tomorrow with the top teams representing the zone at the nationals in Bukedea early May.

With their sights set on national and international glory, this Ugandan school is undoubtedly one to watch. As they continue to soar in the world of sports, their story serves as a testament to the power of inspiration, hard work, and determination.

A sensational sport to watch this year, I have been at Elite this week and I witnessed a tragic improvement in basketball by different teams. We expect our schools to represent us better this this year in ISF
