The President of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA), who also doubles as the USSSA President, Mr. Justus Mugisha, concluded a successful one-day assessment visit to Kenya in preparation for the 2025 FEASSA Games, scheduled to take place in August in Kakamega City.
During the visit, Mr. Mugisha, accompanied by senior FEASSA and Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) officials, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Dr. Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Basic Education in the Ministry of Education, Kenya. The high-level meeting underscored Kenya’s strong commitment to hosting a successful and inclusive championship.
“I commend the Ministry of Education and the host association for their unwavering dedication,” said President Mugisha. “We are excited to return to Kenya for what promises to be a historic edition of the FEASSA Games.”
The Principal Secretary reassured the delegation of the Kenyan government’s full support, emphasizing the country’s readiness to welcome thousands of student-athletes from across East Africa and beyond. In a significant development, guest teams from other African nations are expected to join the regional tournament, highlighting its growing continental appeal.
Among the dignitaries expected to attend the event are the Presidents of the International School Sport Federation (ISF) and the Federation of African School Sports (FASS). A Pan-African Symposium on School Sports will also be held concurrently with the games, offering a platform for dialogue on the role of school sports in educational development and regional integration.
In anticipation of the games, a FEASSA technical team will return to Kakamega to finalize logistical and infrastructural arrangements. This year’s edition is projected to be the largest since the inception of the FEASSA Games in 2002, both in terms of participation and scope.
In collaboration with KSSSA, the organizing committee has confirmed the addition of chess and Scrabble to the competitive lineup, joining the existing 15 core disciplines. Additionally, lacrosse, beach volleyball, beach soccer, and cricket will be introduced as demonstration sports, marking a forward-thinking step in diversifying school sports offerings.
The visit underscored the power of collaboration between FEASSA and KSSSA, and the shared vision to elevate school sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment, regional unity, and excellence in education.
