KAMPALA, UGANDA – In an exciting turn of events, Uganda has been chosen to host the 21st edition of the East Africa School Games (FEASSA) in 2024. This highly anticipated sporting event, known for uniting secondary schools, primary schools, and special needs institutions (SNE) from across East Africa, is set to celebrate athletic prowess like never before.
The 2024 FEASSA Games will offer a spectacular showcase of a diverse range of disciplines, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, netball, handball, rugby 15s, hockey, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming, rugby 7s, and goal ball for SNE participants. With such a wide array of sports on the roster, the event promises to captivate the hearts of both participants and spectators.
Uganda’s selection as the host for the 21st edition follows a rotational system. Following Rwanda’s successful hosting of the 20th edition, Uganda now has the opportunity to showcase its commitment to nurturing young sporting talent and promoting sports development.
This decision underscores Uganda’s dedication to providing a platform for budding athletes to shine. As preparations for the 2024 FEASSA Games gain momentum, the nation is gearing up to display its world-class sporting facilities, warm hospitality, and organizational prowess. The goal is to deliver a memorable and seamless event for all participants and spectators.
While Uganda secured the honor of hosting the event in 2024, several schools from across the country demonstrated their enthusiasm by submitting bids to host various sports disciplines during the games. The bidding schools included:
- St Mary’s College Rushoroza – Located in the picturesque Kigezi district, this school will represent the Western region of Uganda.
- Teso College Aloet – Nestled in Soroti district, this institution will be the face of the Teso region in Eastern Uganda.
- Nabumali High School – Proudly located in Mbale district, this school will carry the banner of the Bugisu region in Eastern Uganda.
- Jinja Secondary School – Found in Jinja district, this school will be the torchbearer for the Busoga region in Eastern Uganda.
- Bukedea Comprehensive School – Situated in Bukedi, this school will join Teso College Aloet in representing the Teso region in Eastern Uganda.
- Namilyango College – Based in Mukono district, this school will champion the Central region of Uganda.
- Nyakasura School – Nestled in the charming Fort Portal, this school will proudly represent the Rwenzori region in Western Uganda.
The bidding schools exhibited their commitment to promoting sports development and showcasing their respective regions’ capabilities. While Uganda takes center stage as the host nation, these schools’ active participation adds an extra layer of excitement and anticipation to the 2024 FEASSA Games.
