Having accumulated a total of 21 points, Greenlight Islamic topped the nine team log and was crowned champion of the first ever USSSA weekend league on Sunday afternoon at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium. USSSA president, Justus Mugisha was present at the official launch of the USSSA Nansana sub zone weekend league.
The USSSA Nansana Sub Zone, Wakiso Zone saw 9 teams come to the forefront to compete for gold.
The weekend league’s primary object is to keep sports vibrant in secondary schools and foster talent development. Surely, these teams have lived up to the expectations, as there has been action throughout the 140 days since 29 June 2024.
Justus Mugisha, USSSA president commended work done by the Nansana sub zone chairman in terms of mobilising and organising the league. Mugisha noted that this would set the pace for other zones and encourage them to follow suit.
”This league has provided a platform for students to develop their skills, team work and showcase their talents. It is essential for our students to be strong and ready for championships throughout the year.”
With weekend leagues also a platform for capacity building products to practice their craft, capacity building referees that officiated these games were appreciated and rewarded by USSSA president Justus Mugisha.
He offered them free upgrade courses at the forthcoming Capacity building that will transpire at Lubiri SS.
Greenlight Islamic was handed their trophy and medals by USSSA president in high and jovial moods at the official launch of the weekend league.
All the 9 teams that participated in the Nansana sub zone weekend league 1st edition received a set of USSSA branded jerseys from USSSA at the same event.
