Boys Semis

Kakungulu (Ug) 2-0 Smack (Ug)

Musingu (Ke) 0(3)-0(2) St. Anthony (Ke)

Kakungulu Memorial beat fellow Ugandan side St. Mary’s College Kisubi 2-0 in the hockey boys’ semifinals on Thursday to make the finals of the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Huye, Rwanda.

Kakungulu want to defend the trophy they won in Tanzania last year and their captain Frank Wambalya believes the country can count on them.

“Today’s (Thursday) game was not easy but we managed to pull through and we now look towards winning the final,” Wambalya said.

Kakungulu play Kenyan side Musingu, who beat counterparts St. Anthony 3-2 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time in the other semifinal, on Saturday.

While the boys’ chances are promising, things look a bit more complicated for Kakungulu’s girls who are in a round-robin competition.

They have 10 points from five games – three behind Kenyan sides Nyamira and St. Joseph Kitale.

Nyamira are Kenyan champions but Kakungulu must beat them by at least eight goals on Saturday to stand a chance of defending the prestigious trophy.

St. Joseph beat Kakungulu 2-0 on Thursday while Nyamira whitewashed Bweranyangi 5-0 for the Kenyan sides to go into their final fixtures with a shot at gold.

Elsewhere, the historical Ugandan institutions of Gayaza High School and Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga drew 0-0 in their meeting.
