Key take aways from the 43rd USSSA Ordinary General Assembly.

Dr. Kedrace Turyagenda, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Education and Sports graced the occasion as chief guest alongside Commissioner Physical Education and Sports Rev. Can. Dr. Duncans Mugumya and Asst. comm. Sammy Odong among other Ministry officials.

This year’s lead decisions event was held at Front Page Zzana constituting of USSSA zone representatives from the 19 zones, various sports federations and associations heads in a bid to review the past year’s activities and plan for the upcoming events and sporting year 2026.

USSSA president Justus Mugisha emphasized the need to continue doing the basics right at grassroot level of sports in this country where he singled out the Uganda cubs currently competing in Qatar at the FIFA U-17 World Cup as an example.

“Competition is the heartbeat of sports. Once competitions stop, we are declared ineffective. I want to declare that this year all our competitions were held successfully and massively improved.” Justus Mugisha added.

“Uganda has a team at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and great credit to our championships because its where these young boys were scouted. With more organization we can see Uganda performing even much better at also senior categories.” Rev. Can. Dr. Duncans Mugumya.

At the AGM, President Justus Mugisha went ahead and announced hosts for next year’s championships after thorough inspections, presentations and reviews by the Executive Committee.

Activities left on the calendar

Uganda is set to participate at the ISF Volleyball Championship in Shagoiu China next month represented by Mengo SS and a select side from International Schools.

Additionally Kawempe Myuslim (girls) and St. Mary’s Kitende (boys) will represent Uganda at the CAF Schools Football Championship CECAFA Zone Qualifiers to be hosted in Uganda from 6th to 9th December.

A number of capacity building programs will also take place in December, the ITTF in conjuction with ISF will train students and teachers in table tennis coaching at a capacity building camp that will be held at Mengo SS.

There will also be level two training for all courses but participants will be on recommendation of facilitators.
