The 2023 Kampala region USSSA competitions came to a successful climax at Mengo Senior School on Thursday, 13th April.
Finals of football (boys and girls), Basketball (boys and girls) as well as Hockey (boys and girls) were held.
In boys’ football, Kibuli Secondary School emerged champions after a 2-0 victory over Uganda Martyrs’ High School, Lubaga.
Two second half goals from lethal forward Kenneth Kimera and Ivan Busuulwa saw Kibuli S.S victorious.
Kibuli S.S head coach Emuron Recoba saluted the hard work character from his players coupled with patience and determination for the victory that witnessed them reclaim the Kampala title after Kawempe Muslim’s win in 2022.
“We played like typical champions. We worked hard throughout, we were determined to succeed but patient as well. Focus now is for the upcoming nationals” Recoba stated moments after the final whistle.

Kampala region will be represented by Kibuli S.S, Uganda Martyrs’ High School – Lubaga, Kawempe Muslim, Old Kampala and debutants Mengo S.S at the USSSA national football championships at Nyakasura School in Fort Portal city.


In girls’ football final, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga edged Kawempe Muslim 1-0 with Catherine Naggadya the heroine.
Basketball:
Nabisunsa Girls school emerged top in girls’ basketball with the gold medal ahead of Kibuli S.S.
Kibuli S.S avenged in the boys’ gender, taking gold as Aga Khan settled for silver losing 62-36 and hosts Mengo S.S finished third to claim bronze.
Hockey:
Kakungulu Memorial won both boys’ and girls’ hockey trophies ahead of City High school who took silver.
The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Okanya Patrick ,President Emiritus USSSA and USSSA Executive commiittee members, Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi,Grace Viola Kyolaba, Alice Alwenyi and Eunice Openjuru. ,Mr. Ssebanakitta Nantagya ,the head teacher of Mengo SS and Kampala district zonal secretary alongside the Kampala zone executive committee.


The finals were televised live on FUFA Tv.
