The highly anticipated Kids Athletics and SNEs Championship 2024 is set to kick off today in Kitgum, with over 3000 pupils ready to showcase their athletic talents.

This year’s edition marks the 11th anniversary of the championship, which was first introduced in 2012 and hosted by Mbarara District.

According to UPSSA President William Bwambale, a total of 146 District Local Government teams have registered for the championship, comprising 1523 male and 1522 female athletes. Notably, 12 primary two pupils will participate in the tournament, a rare occurrence in previous years.

In his address during the pre-championship meeting, President Bwambale expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants, highlighting the improvement in the championship since the new executive took office two months ago. He also emphasized the importance of security, with the Resident District Commissioner requesting that all children be in their camps by 7 pm.

Gilbert Orikiriza, from the Ministry of Education and Sports in the Physical Education and Sports Department welcomed the delegations to Kitgum and assured them of a successful championship. He encouraged participants to reach out to the welfare team for any issues and announced that colleagues from the ministry would join the tournament as it progresses.
The championship, which began on May 12 with arrivals, will culminate on May 22. Last year’s edition was hosted by Luwero District, with Pader District emerging as the overall winner. This year’s event promises to be an exciting display of talent and sportsmanship among the young athletes.
Congratulations to you all.
I wish all participants and team managers good health.
I wish my Kabarole team the best of the championships.
