The opening match of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games 2023 (Football – Boys) showcased St. Mary’s Kitende’s dominance as they clinched a triumphant start to the tournament. In an intense encounter held this afternoon at Kamena Playground, Huye City – Rwanda, St. Mary’s Kitende secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Kiwera Coal Mine (TZ).

From the outset, St. Mary’s Kitende displayed their prowess, with Sadik Mansur leading the charge by netting two goals before the halftime whistle. Their strategic gameplay and coordinated efforts on the field set the tone for their determined quest for victory.

The second half saw another pivotal moment when Tumwine Faisal was fouled within the penalty arch by a Kiwera Coal Mine defender, leading to the award of a penalty kick. Torachi Rogers confidently converted the penalty into a goal, sealing St. Mary’s Kitende’s commanding 3-0 lead.

With an unwavering mission to secure the FEASSSA 20th edition trophy, St. Mary’s Kitende demonstrated their resilience and ambition on the field. This determination was fueled by their near-miss in the 19th edition held in Arusha, Tanzania, last year.

Meanwhile, another Ugandan contender, Amus College, made a strong statement in Group A. They conquered Kenya’s Shanderemwa with a 2-0 victory, led by Allan Oyirworth’s brace, showcasing their attacking prowess.

In a separate match, St. Henry’s College Kitovu outplayed Kalangalala SSS from Tanzania, securing a decisive 2-0 win and further highlighting Ugandan teams’ strong presence.
