In the USSSA District Qualifiers, Friday 28th March was a day of blitz classics at Gaddafi FC arena as either champion could not be determined in normal play time.
The champions were determined by their luck from the spot kicks.
Lakeside School Masese played out a goalless draw with Jinja Comprehensive School in regular time with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances.
Lakeside the better side on the day were the luckier side in the spot kicks and lifted the Boys Football title having won 4-3.
In the other final, Jinja Progressive Academy girls team came from a goal down to force a draw against fierce rivals Jinja Secondary School in a very tense match played before a throng of spectators early in the afternoon.
Jinja SS led majority of the game by 1-0 thanks to an early first half goal but could not hold their nerves for the rest of the game as JIPRA piled a lot pressure on their defence.
Jinja Progressive finally grabbed the equalizer in the dying minutes of the second stanza which forced the game into penalties to get the victor.
Jinja Secondary School who were the better side for the majority of the game succumbed to Jinja Progressive Academy in spot kicks. Jinja Progressive won 3-1.
It is also vital to note that Jinja Progressive also won the boys duel in the Elite Games Boys final that was played at Kakindu stadium early in January this year.
The victory battle for bragging rights remained tilted on JIPRA side as they secured their second trophy this year
All the finalists will await to play even much stronger sides at the zonal level in the USSSA Zonal Qualifiers 2024.
The battle to book spots in the USSSA National Football Boys Championship- Masaka and the Fresh Dairy Ball Games 1 is getting even much tastier.
