
It was a momentous day in Gulu as the USSSA Capacity Building Program came to a close, marking the end of a five-day intensive training for 63 participants. The program, which kicked off on January 19th, 2024, had brought together teachers from primary and secondary schools, students, and community members to enhance their skills in football coaching and refereeing.

As the participants gathered at Scared Heart Sec School, the excitement was palpable. Among them were 57 boys and 6 girls, all eager to receive their certificates of attendance. The courses offered had been a huge success, with 35 participants enrolled in Football Coaching CAF D and 28 in Football Refereeing Level 2.
The function was graced by several city officials, including the City Educational Officer, Irwenyo Richard who was the guest of honor. In his remarks, he praised USSSA and FUFA for their collaborative efforts in improving sports in the region. He pledged to support USSSA’s activities, acknowledging the importance of sports in promoting youth development and community engagement.

Mr. Okot P’Bitek, the 2nd Vice President of USSSA and coordinator of the program in Gulu, thanked the participants for their active participation and enthusiasm. He emphasized that the program would enhance the internal capacity of schools to manage sports, ultimately reducing the costs associated with running sports programs.
