The National Kids Athletics and SNE Championship, which took place in Kitgum from May 12th to 20th, 2024, came to a close with a vibrant closing ceremony. The event, which brought together over 4000 athletes and 1000 officials from 162 districts was a resounding success.
“I want to thank our brothers of USSSA for being very supportive. I thank the government of Uganda for supporting sports because it’s a uniting factor.”
“In sports, we don’t mind about colors. Most leaders in this country are in Sports.” Bwambale William, President Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association remarked.
Further more, Nsubuga Mustafa, President of the Uganda Sports Officers Association, appealed to the Ministry of Education and Sports to increase the budget for community sports from 40 million to at least 100 million to ensure the smooth running of such events.
Gilbert Orikiriza, Desk Officer for Primary Schools Championships, announced that certificates would not be awarded on the spot but would be available for collection at a later date.

Sammy Odongo, the Assistant Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports, emphasized the importance of sports in enhancing health and education. He commended Kitgum for hosting a successful event.

The ceremony was attended by athletes, games teachers, and other stakeholders. The highlight of the event was the awarding of medals and trophies to the best-performing athletes, with the Special Needs Education (SNE) athletes scooping most of the awards.
The championship showcased the talent and dedication of young athletes from across the country and the closing ceremony marked a fitting end to a memorable event.
