New Leagues Introduced as Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Highlights On 2024 Activities.

Special Needs Education (SNE) games and secondary schools’ leagues are the new innovations that will be on USSSA activities calendar for 2024.

The schools’ leagues will be competed by schools that are neighboring one another and the SNE’s will be for students with disabilities.

“While not all schools cater for special needs students, we have identified a few that cater for these needs and have the facilities. Special Needs Competitions will be introduced in ball games II, this year we are starting with goal ball under the guidance of the different federations.” -President Justus Mugisha

“Every student has a right to play for at least one hour per day, the new lower curriculum provides enough time for children to play. Schools must provide facilities for each child to play for at least one hour, the new sports law provides for facilities for at least 15 different sports in every school” President Mugisha added.

According to the Mugisha, USSSA Is Advocating For The Following

•Sports day to be mandatory in every school.

• Each school to participate in at least 3 interschool competitions

• Artificial turf for schools to be classified as scholastic material, hence tax-free

Competition format.

•All teams are going to play same number of matches

•All positions will be competed for hence classification matches will be put in place

• Number of competition days reduced from 14 to 9 for football boys

Competition Rules and Regulations

“The rules have been drafted and sent to the department of Physical Education and Sports pending the signature of the Commissioner. Once they are signed they will be released.” Justus Mugisha, President

On player transfer guidelines schools are required to submit students on sports bursary

“Player transfer guidelines have also been put in place ,players who are on bursary can only move from one school to another with the consent of the former school headteacher” President Justus Mugisha

Slots Allocations

Slots will be given on merit according to the following;

•Last Year’s Slot Allocation

•Last Year’s Slot Utilization

•Last Year’s level of competition at the zone

•Interest in development of the sport

•Last year’s performance at National championships

USSSA Organizes several numbers of championships starting with the Elite Games in January which act as a curtain raiser.
