Quality High SchooL Buikwe, Mukono Kings triumphant in 2025 USSSA Mukono Zone football championships

2025 USSSA Mukono Zone Football Championship

Boys:

  • Final: St Julian High School 0-1 Quality High School Buikwe
  • Girls: Lugazi Homestone School 1 (3) – 1 (4) Mukono Kings

The 2025 USSSA Mukono zone football championships have successfully concluded at the St Kalemba SS playground on Sunday, 13th April.

Quality High School Buikwe and Mukono Kings have won the boys and girls overall titles respectively.

During the well-attended grand finale also watched by the USSSA third vice president Harriet Margaret Apolot, Quality High School Buikwe overcame St Julian High School 1-0.

Hirodi Koma Lazze scored the all-important goal of the game in the second minute.

It would have been two goals under five minutes but a penalty struck by Marvin Rwothomio was saved by St Julian High School goalkeeper Harunah Brighton.

This is the first ever trophy for Quality High School Buikwe at the zonal level, a feat that head coach Peter Sserumaga attributed to teamwork and good preparations.

“We commenced the preparations early. The players played like gallant soldiers with great determination” Sserumaga remarked.

At the nationals coming up in Ngora, Mukono zone will be represented by Quality High School Buikwe, Lugazi Homestone, Namagabi SS and Mehta SS.

In the girls’ finale, Mukono Kings defeated a hard fighting Lugazi Homestone School 4-3 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended 1-all.

Nabillah Nawoma, Aidah Namuwonge, Valencia Nagayi and Shanitah Nakakooza scored the penalties for Mukono Kings.

Sawuya Mutalaza, Elizabeth Kuluva and Mercy Wasagali were on target for Lugazi Homestone whilst Ritah Kadondi and Victoria Nabbona missed their respective kicks from the penalty spot.

USSSA third vice president Apolot congratulated all the teams that took part and urged the successful schools to prepare well for the nationals.

The chief guest Christopher Kibirige, the Kayunga district sports officer lauded the participating schools.

Kibirige hinted on the value of sports as good healthy, confidence building, handling success and failure, employment, opportunity to tour different areas, among others.

Mukono zone will play their Basketball qualifiers on the weekend of 18th and 19th April at St Mary’s College Lugazi.
