Rugby sevens Makes Historic Debut at 6th Edition of Elite Games

The 6th edition of the Elite Games marked a significant milestone as Rugby Sevens made its debut, featuring two boys’ schools: Busoga College Mwiri from Busoga Zone and London College of St. Lawrence. The round-robin format saw Busoga College Mwiri dominate the competition, winning all three games against London College of St. Lawrence.

  • Day One, Game 1: Busoga College Mwiri 40 – 10 London College of St. Lawrence
  • Day One, Game 2: London College of St. Lawrence 10 – 22 Busoga College Mwiri
  • Day Two: Busoga College Mwiri 21 – 14 London College of St. Lawrence

Ikinyom Mario Prince from Busoga College Mwiri was awarded the Most Valuable Player, recognizing his outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Nkoma SS from Mbale, was declared the winner by default in the girls’ category, as they were the only participating team.

Bithola Ocukune Francis, a USSSA Executive committee member and rugby delegate, emphasized the need for early mobilization to generate interest among teams and improve future events. This debut marks a significant step forward for Rugby Sevens in the Elite Games, and with increased participation and interest, the sport is poised for growth and excitement in future editions.

The Championship took place at St Joseph of Nazareth in Mpigi from the 14th-16th Feb making a huge success for school sports in Uganda
