Today morning, the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Annita Annet Among, has officially flagged off a delegation comprising two schools: St. Noa Girls Schools Football Team and St. Mary’s Kitende to Ghana for the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.
The ceremony, held at the Parliament of Uganda, was attended by the Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya; FUFA President and Member of Parliament for Budiope East Constituency, Honorable Moses Magogo; USSSA President Justus Mugisha; USSSA 3rd Vice President M. Harriet Margaret Apolot; and USSSA CEO Christopher Mugisha.

While addressing the students and the Speaker, Justus Mugisha, USSSA President, applauded the government for its support towards school sports. “We thank the government for the support given to school sports. We want to remind you that during our visit at the State House, the President promised us that each zone would receive one bus and a sports facility; up to now, we are still waiting.”
FUFA President Moses Magogo appreciated USSSA for developing and promoting talents, acknowledging the teams’ impact on Ugandan football. “St. Noa Girls and St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende have been instrumental in developing Ugandan football. I want to appreciate their commitment and wish them success in Ghana.”
The Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports praised the Speaker for her love and support towards sports. “I want to appreciate you, Speaker, for the love and support towards sports. In the first edition, when you flagged off Amus College, they finished third, and this time we are targeting the trophy.”
The Speaker of Parliament, Annita Annet Among, appreciated previous winners and urged Kitende and St. Noa to perform their best. “I thank the government of Uganda for the support in developing Ugandan sports through infrastructure, funds, conducive environment, and the sports act. As you go to Ghana, represent your country well.” The Speaker supported both teams with a $5,000 token of appreciation each, saying, “As we give you this, the only way to give us back is by making us proud. When you’re playing, play for me.”
The tournament will kick off on the 23rd and run until the 26th in Ghana’s capital, Accra, featuring eight teams in each category (boys and girls) from the four CAF regions, with Uganda participating in both. Ghana is hosting the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship Continental Finals in April, where football greats like Asamoah Gyan and Abedi Pele will guide the youngsters.
