St. Henry’s College Kitovu, Kaddugala SS, Notre Dame and Kako SS back to National Ball Games II.

St. Kizito SS Vocational School, Mateete in Ssembabule was the main venue for Masaka Zone ball games II qualifiers over three days.

Hajji Huzairu Ssebyala the chairperson Masaka School Sports Association is confident that all teams from Masaka zone will compete and not just represent.

“As Masaka Zone we are confident that the teams we have sent to Soroti are the best and they will compete to the best of their abilities. The teams are from all the districts that make up greater Masaka namely Kalungu, Masaka City, Ssembabule, Lwengo, Rakai, Bukomansimbi, Masaka district and Kyotera. Lyantonde however did not send any team to the championships”.

Sserwanga Lwanga Memorial SS was the only school that travelled to Ssembabule from the Islands of Kalangala.The boys from Sserwanga Lwanga played Volleyball up to quarterfinal level losing to St. Henry’ College Kitovu 2-0.

Netball attracted the highest number of schools (47) while Mind games and handball attracted the least (two). Kaddugala SS beat Blessed Sacrament Kimanya 21-17 in the semifinal to set a date with Nile Citizens SS Kalisizo who beat St. Josephine Bakhita 21-19. Kaddugala overcame Nile Citizens in the final to lift the trophy.

A total of 8 teams will represent Masaka Zone at Teso College Aloet.The teams that qualified in order of ranking Kaddugala SS,Nile Citizens SS Kalisizo, St. Josephine Bakhita ,Blessed Sacrament SS Kimanya ,Victoria Colege Lukaya ,St. James SS Kyotera, Mateete Comprehensive SS and Mawogola High School.

Volleyball

St. Charles Lwanga SS Kasasa beat St. Joseph SS Nkoni to lift the trophy while Al-him from Kalungu overcame Bukomansimbi SS for the bronze in the girls’ category while in the boys’ category Masaka SS beat Al-him to lift the trophy.

St. Henry College Kitovu won bronze after overcoming St. James SS Kyotera.

Athletics

Five schools turned up on day one and these were St. Balikuddembe (Kalungu), St.Paul Kyanukuzi,Kawanda COU SS,St. Mary Laticia and Kyanjovu SS.

The events athletes for both women & men U20 inlcuded 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m,5000m,4 x 100m, 4 x 400m, Short Medley Relay,Long Medley Relay, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus and Javelin.

Under 16 Boys’ Football

Nine schools turned up and they played on league and knockout basis over 2

Kako Secondary School emerged winner while Numasa SS settled for the silver.

Others schools in order of ranking were Kaddugala Secondary School,Masaka Town College,St. Paul and Paulines Secondary School,Bukomansimbi Secondary School,Kinoni Integrated Secondary School,St. James Secondary School  and Sseke Secondary School.

Three schools participated in under 16 girls’ football at the zonal level and they are Masaka Secondary School, St. Charles Lwanga S.S. Kasasa and Masaka Town College.Therefor Masaka zone will represented by Masaka SS and St. Charles Lwanga SS Kasasa.

DanceSport (Girls) 1. King’s High School, 2.St. Mary’s Leticia Secondary School ,3. Notre Dame High School and 4. Kako SSS

DanceSport (Boys) 1. King’s High School,2.St. Mary’s Leticia Secondary School,3.Notre Dame High Schooland 4. Kako Secondary School

King’s High School was the best in both boys and girls Dance Sport while St. Mary’s Leticia were runners up in both boys and girls.

Mindgames (Chess) :1. St. Henrys College Kitovu 2. Kibaale Community

Three schools participated in Masaka Zone Hand ball Boys’ championship and St. Henry’s College Kitovu emerged winners followed by Mustard Seed Secondary School Lukaya by and Kako Secondary School respectively.

Lwembawo Hussein Kyagulanyi ,USSSA Executive committee member was very pleased with the number of schools that have interested themselves in various sports and encouraged them to never give up because they learners needed both academics and sports to succeed.

Mustard Seed Secondary School Lukaya will be the only girls’ representative from Masaka zone because it was the only school that turned up
