Stakeholder Engagement: USSSA & UPSSA Meet with Buganda Kingdom Officials to Strengthen School Sports Collaboration

USSSA and UPSSA officials met Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Sports, Owek. Serwanga Robert Salongo at Bulange, Mengo, to discuss school sports collaboration. Key topics included harmonizing regulations, capacity building, and expanding participation.

Buganda Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to sports, highlighting events like Bika Football and the Masaza Cup. The Buganda Schools Competition confirmed for March 13–16, 2025, at Kawanda SS.

On Monday 10th January 2025, a high-level meeting was held at Bulange, Mengo, bringing together officials from the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA), and the Buganda Kingdom. The discussions centered on fostering harmony in school sports, capacity building, and aligning competition formats and regulations.

The USSSA delegation was led by Emeritus Okanya Patrick, alongside CEO Mugisha Christopher Banage and secretariat staff. UPSSA was represented by its President, Bwambale George William, and EXCO Members Bwiire Hillary and Sheik Matovu Suleiman. This meeting was graciously hosted by Owek. Serwanga Robert Salongo, the Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Sports, Youth, and Arts,who reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to sports development in schools.

USSSA CEO Mugisha Christopher Banage emphasized the association’s commitment to identifying and nurturing talent while ensuring mass participation.

Upcoming Buganda Schools Competition

As part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen school sports, USSSA is coming on board to support the upcoming Buganda Schools Competition has been scheduled for March 13–16, 2025, at Kawanda SS.
