In Algeria — Team Uganda concluded their spirited campaign at the ANOCA Zone V School Games 2025 with a commendable five medals, marking yet another significant milestone on the continental schools’ sports stage.
The games, which took place from 26th July to 5th August, brought together top young talents from across Africa in a celebration of youth sports and talent development for the first edition of these games.
Uganda fielded a contingent of 56 athletes, drawn from four schools: Buddo SS, Gayaza High School, Seroma Christian High School, and Ngora High School.

- Bronze (3) – Athletics (1), Basketball 3X3 (Girls – Seroma Christian High School), and Boys Football (Buddo SS)
Athletics as always proved to be Uganda’s strongest suit, delivering three of the five medals.
Under the stewardship of Coach Justine Bayiga, the standout performers gave Uganda a gold, a silver, and a bronze in thrilling races that captivated fans at the Stade Ben Abdelmalek Ramdan.
Cherotwo Baskaline won gold after winning the 1500M final in 4:26:93 while Chekwemboi Risper finished third in 4:42:90 to win bronze.



On the basketball court, Seroma Christian High School fought gallantly to bring home a bronze medal in the girls’ 3X3 category with fellow East Africans Rwanda claiming bronze.

In boys’ football, Buddo SS, representing Uganda, secured a bronze medal after defeating Sudan 3-1 in the third-place playoff, with Jemba Gideon starring with a brace and Mukasa Owen converting from the spot.


Overall performance
Uganda completed the ANOCA expedition ranking 13th of the 50 countries that scooped at least a medal.

Though the team fell short of topping the medals table, their overall performance signals growth and potential. The ANOCA Games provided a crucial platform for experience, exposure, and development.
As the curtains fall on the 2025 ANOCA Games, Uganda returns home with heads held high, five medals richer and dreams for the future brighter than ever.
