Amuria – The Teso Zone Secondary School’s Ball Games II culminated with a thrilling display of talent and determination as athletes vied for qualification to the highly anticipated USSSA National Championships. Schools from across the region showcased their skills in various disciplines, aiming to secure their place among the nation’s finest. Let’s delve into the remarkable achievements of the qualifying teams and athletes.
In the Athletics Overall category, the girls’ division witnessed a fierce battle for the top spot. Soroti City emerged as the champions, amassing an impressive 129 points. Their stellar performances in various track and field events demonstrated their exceptional athleticism and dedication. Following closely were Serere and Ngora, securing second and third place with 100 and 98 points, respectively. Amuria, Kumi, Kapelebyong, Kalaki, Katakwi, and Bukedea also showcased their talent and determination, contributing to the intense competition.

The boys’ division in Athletics Overall saw Soroti City claim the championship title with an outstanding total of 158 points. Their exceptional performances in sprinting, jumping, and throwing events showcased their versatility and strength. Kapelebyong and Amuria displayed commendable performances, securing the second and third positions with 112 and 100 points, respectively. Ngora, Kalaki, Serere, Kumi, Katakwi, and Bukedea also exhibited their prowess in the field.
With the culmination of all disciplines, the overall ranking solidified Soroti City’s dominance as the Teso Zone’s ultimate champions, amassing a remarkable total of 287 points. Ngora, Amuria, Kapelebyong, Serere, Kumi, Kalaki, Katakwi, and Bukedea secured their positions in the top ten, highlighting their remarkable performances throughout the tournament. Unfortunately, Kaberemaido did not have representation in the competition.
Aside from athletics, other disciplines also witnessed outstanding performances from the participating schools. In Handball, Soroti SS emerged as the champions in the boys’ division, while Ngora High School showcased their dominance in the girls’ division. The basketball category saw Soroti SS claim the championship title in the boys’ division, showcasing their skills and determination.

In Netball, Dr. Aporu Okol SS, Soroti SS, and Bukedea Comprehensive emerged as the champions, displaying their remarkable teamwork and strategic gameplay. These schools demonstrated their excellence in the sport, earning their well-deserved spots in the upcoming national championships.

Volleyball proved to be a thrilling category, with Bukedea Comprehensive, Amus College, and Ngora High School securing the championship title in the boys’ division. In the girls’ division, Ngora High School, Amus College, and Kanyumu Comprehensive displayed exceptional talent and teamwork, earning their place in the national championships.
The football category witnessed impressive performances in the U-14 division, where Amus College secured the championship title among the boys. In the U-14 girls’ division, Amus College continued their winning streak, showcasing their prowess on the field.
The U-16 divisions showcased Amus College School’s dominance, as they emerged as champions in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Teso College Aloet and Asamuk SS put up commendable performances but were unable to surpass Amus College School’s exceptional gameplay.

While Dance Sports, Rugby 7s, Lacrosse, and other disciplines did not have participating teams, the spirit and excitement of the event remained undeterred, as the focus shifted to the remarkable achievements in the qualifying disciplines.
These outstanding athletes and teams have now secured their qualification for the
upcoming USSSA National Championships, set to take place in Kabale in 2023. They will compete against the best schools from across the country, aiming to bring glory to their respective zones and schools.
