Uganda School Athletics team ups preparations for Gymnasiade, FEASSSA Games

The Uganda schools’ athletics team successfully completed their

training camp at Ndejje University campus in Luweero.

The camp was climaxed with highly competitive trials for the

athletes (boys and girls).

The team is combined of athletes who will represent Uganda at

the 2023 Gymnasiade Games in Brazil (U-15) and the

FEASSSA Games in Huye city, Rwanda.

Johson Nyeko captains the boys with Priscilla Akello the girls’

captain.

“The training was excellent. We expect more medals this year

than the previous year” Akello vowed.

Raphael Daniel Kasajja, the head coach of team Uganda hailed

the level of competition from the athletes exemplified by

outstanding times posted by different runners in the various

races.

“The camp itself was a success and ended with a highly
competitive trial event where even the best athletes from the
nationals in Kabale were beaten with great times. This was a
two in one team with both the team for FEASSSA and World
Games in Brazil” Kasajja noted.

Team manager Harriet Margret Apolot (3rd Vice President

USSSA) urged the collective teamwork and support to these

athletes who are the future of athletics in Uganda.

“I humbly call for the support of our athletes by all the different

stakeholders. These are athletes that are a basis for the Uganda

national team in the coming years” Apolot remarked.

Abdallah Muhammad, the publicist of Uganda Athletics

Federation (UAF) hails the USSSA for the training camps and

capacity building programs started which are definitely driving

the association in the desired right direction.

“In a special way, I want to thank USSSA for the training camps

and capacity building programs held periodically. These are

programs that have impacted for the better” UAF spokesperson

stated.

The FEASSSA Games will be held in Huye city, Rwanda (17 th to

27 th August 2023) while the Gymnasiade Games will take place

in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil (19 th to 29th August 2023).

USSSA has this year also taken part in the ISF World Football

Championship in Rabat city, Morocco where St Noa Girls

scooped bronze.
