Team Uganda added another medal to their tally at the ongoing ANOCA School Games 2025 in Algeria, thanks to a strong showing from Chelimo Karen, who bagged silver in the 3000 metres youth women’s final.

Running under the lights at the historic May 19th 1956 Stadium in Annaba, Chelimo clocked an impressive time of 9:33.69, finishing second in a hotly contested race.

Her silver medal marks Uganda’s first in athletics at this year’s edition of the continental youth event.
Meanwhile, the boys gave it their all in the sprints. Atuyambe Rashad, competing in the 400 metres, finished in 6th place against a tough field.
In the explosive 100 metres dash, Abraham Muhwezi also secured a 6th place finish, battling through a tightly packed field that left no room for error.
His start was strong, but the final burst saw him edged out of medal contention in the final few metres.
Though medals were limited on the night, the performances reflected Uganda’s steady rise in track events at the youth level.
The athletes are now looking forward to upcoming events, with Uganda still hopeful for more medals in middle and long-distance races — a traditional stronghold for the nation.
Elsewhere Uganda takes on Algeria in boys football semi final in Annaba with chances of bagging atleast a medal too.
