
Uganda were 1,140 points to the good as they won the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games on Thursday in Huye, Rwanda.
That was 85 points more than their competition Kenya while the hosts managed 450 from their 12 swimmers.
Uganda’s boys’ team amassed 543 points and 24 medals (13 gold, seven silver and four bronzes) while the girls had 517 (nine gold, five silver and seven bronze medals) en route to their first ever triumph at the games.
Coach Erick Kisero had a multi-talented team but he mostly relied on Karimah Katemba (60 individual points), Karla Mugisha (55), Abigail Mwagale (54), Rahmah Nakasule (53), Paloma Kirabo (52) and Esther Atoo (47) to wrestle the Kenyans.
Pendo Kaumi (60), Akram Lubega (57), Ampaire Namanya (54), Ethan Ssengooba (52) were among the top five performing male swimmers at the competition.
