19th July, Kampala – The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has officially released the qualified teams that will represent Uganda in the upcoming 20th Edition of the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) Games. A total of 68 schools from across the country wualified to compete in the prestigious sporting event, showcasing their talent and sportsmanship on the regional stage.
The FEASSSA Games will feature 14 disciplines, with both boys and girls participating in various sports. The disciplines include Football, Basketball 5×5, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Rugby (both 7s and 15s), Basketball 3×3, Volleyball, Handball, Athletics, Swimming, and Netball.
Football, one of the most popular disciplines, will be represented by 4 schools each for both boys and girls. Following closely is Hockey, with 4 schools each in the boys’ and girls’ categories. Basketball 5×5 will have 6 schools for boys and girls, while Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Basketball 3×3, Volleyball, Handball, and Netball will each have 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, and 4 schools respectively.
The highly anticipated FEASSSA Championships are scheduled to take place from the 17th to the 27th of August 2023. The beautiful city of Huye in Rwanda will be the host for this exciting event. It promises to be an electrifying atmosphere as young athletes from Uganda and other East African countries come together to compete and showcase their skills in friendly rivalry.
The Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) Games is not only an opportunity for these talented young athletes to display their abilities, but it also fosters unity and friendship among East African nations. This regional sporting event has been instrumental in promoting camaraderie and understanding among the youth of the region, transcending borders, and promoting peace.
USSSA President, Justus Mugisha, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming games, stating, “We are thrilled to send 68 of Uganda’s most talented and dedicated young athletes to represent our nation in the 20th Edition of the FEASSSA Games. This event not only celebrates sportsmanship and athleticism but also provides a platform for our youth to build strong connections with their peers from neighboring countries.”

As the date draws nearer, the qualified schools and their athletes are expected to intensify their training and preparations. The entire nation will be cheering them on, with hopes of bringing back medals and recognition to Uganda.
