The Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) successfully convened its 41st Annual General Assembly at GNS plaza in Old Kampala on Saturday, 14th October,2023.
The well attended congress was chaired by president Justus Mugisha, who was flanked by CEO Christopher Mugisha Banage and other members of the executive committee.


Honorable Peter Ogwang, Minister of state for Sports (Ministry of Education and Sports) was the chief guest at the assembly that was also attended by David Ngugi, FEASSSA General Secretary as well as the delegates from the different zones.
The assembly endorsed the activity and financial reports from the previous years as well as approving the ones for the 2024 season.
In the year 2022, USSSA generated 5,210,723,675 Uganda shillings with 2,700,000,000 Uganda shillings as the contribution from the Government. The remaining revenue was derived from subscriptions participation fees, accreditation sponsorships, fees from accommodation and feeding.
The projected budget for the year 2024 is 11,636,941,500 Uganda shillings (with 7 billion of this being contributed by the government through the Department of Physical Education, Ministry of Education and Sports).
Honorable Peter Ogwang appreciated the executive of USSSA for the work well done over the years as he hinted on the element of sports infrastructure development, a key pillar heading forward.
“I commend the leadership of USSSA for promoting school sports in Uganda. I appreciate the private sector for their effort to invest in sports infrastructure docket. Let us use the right age group of players in promoting the games. We shall apply the law to address age cheating and use of non bonafide students”. Hon Ogwang remarked.

FEASSSA representative Ngugi commended USSSA for leading by example in East and Central Africa region.
He projected successful tenure of the FEASSSA games in the forth coming years where Amus College and Bukedea Comprehensive schools will co-host the games in Uganda.

“FEASSSA is very proud of the development at USSSA, you are the shinning armor of FEASSSA. The FEASSSA games help to empower students as they develop their talents. The next FEASSSA games in 2024 will be hosted in Uganda and we aim to have very successful games” Ngugi stated.
“As USSSA, we have learnt and benchmarked a lot from our brother in Kenya”. President Mugisha added before notifying the assembly that combat and mind games will be added on the USSSA 2024 Calendar.
Zulaika Nabukeera, General Secretary, ASSHU singled out USSSA’s role in collaboration with the primary schools’ section to uplift the games from the grassroots.
“I laud USSSA fort the good management and administration. In a special way, I thank USSSA for adapting primary schools into the system. For pending issues of over aged students and the use of no bonafide students, we are with you in the struggle”. Nabukeera said.
The assembly also voted Monday Christopher, Head teacher, St. Mary’s College Rushoroza in a bye- election after Brother Kato who represented western region passed on in August this year. Monday beat the duo of Onesmus Rukundo and Joshua Kagaba in a closely contested election moment before the assembly was adjourned.

President Justus Mugisha informed the members that in 2024 USSSA will continue with the vast sports programs, domestic and international competitions and capacity building.
