USSSA Dismisses False Age Allegations Against St. Mary’s Kitende Student, Reaffirms Eligibility Compliance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: May 16, 2025

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has noted with concern a wave of false allegations circulating across various media platforms and social media channels regarding the age and eligibility of Santos Manyiel Marial, a Senior Five student at St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School, Kitende.

The allegations claim that Mr. Santos is only 14 years old, casting doubt on his participation in the recently concluded USSSA National Football Championship 2025. These claims are not only baseless but also irresponsible and misleading.

USSSA wishes to set the record straight with the following verified facts:

  1. Santos Manyiel Marial was born on August 20, 2005, making him 19 years old, turning 20 later this year.
  2. His date of birth is officially verified in his Student’s Pass, a visa document issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This pass is a mandatory requirement for all international students participating in USSSA competitions.
  3. Based on his date of birth, 2025 marks his final year of eligibility for USSSA-sanctioned school competitions.
  4. USSSA conducts thorough due diligence and strict verification procedures for all participants, with particular attention to documentation for international students, to ensure full compliance with our competition regulations.

“We are deeply disappointed by the false accusations targeting this student and his school. Such unfounded claims not only harm the reputation of the individual involved but also threaten the integrity of school sports in Uganda,” said Justus Mugisha, President of USSSA.

USSSA strongly condemns the publication and circulation of unverified information. We appeal to the public and the media to exercise responsibility and restraint when handling sensitive matters involving minors and educational institutions. Individuals or entities found spreading misinformation may be held accountable for any reputational or legal consequences arising from their actions.

As the national body mandated to oversee secondary school sports, USSSA remains committed to transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to the rules governing school competitions.

Thank you HE the president for your concern about this false allegations. I think the nation is now at per.

Most this allegations are brought by primary sports teachers whose athletes are screened out by physical appearance. Letting them to now pin pointing at those of USSSA so as to gain favour in the next competition.
