USSSA Games: Amus College knock out holders St Mary’s Kitende

Amus College knocked out holders St Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende after a successful shootout in the 2024 USSSA Games on Saturday.

The two sides were held in a goalless draw in normal time before Amus College secured all the bragging rights.

It was the repeat of last year’s final though this time round, Nimrod Kintu’s charges came out of the kiln victorious.

Kitende were the better side as they pegged Amus College on the back foot however the latter was composed and stood tall all throughout the duel.

Isa Bugembe nearly fired Kitende ahead but his header was cleared off the line as they kept knocking on the door.

Steven Yige set up Denis Kisiriko in the dying minutes but the forward failed to connect with the ball by inches.

And after a tense game of 70 minutes, the two sides were sent in spot kicks to decide who would continue to the final of the ongoing tournament.

Genesis Odiya, Abdurazak Muzamir, Sam Owalamu, Toto Najub, John Otim, Christopher Lubulwa, Idd Rashid Juma, Musa Masengere and Alvin Ssekamatte scored Amus’penalties.

Isa Bugembe, Olimi Nyarwa, Ronald Madoi, Abubaker Walusimbi, Simon Mukisa, Juma Ssajjabi, Denis Kisiriko, Steven Yiga and Simon Mubiru scored for Kitende from the spot.

Second-half substitute Jamal Ssemwogerere’s penalty was thwarted away as the holders were sent packing.
