USSSA Games: Blessed Sacrament seal group stage with victory against Highway Kiganda

Blessed Sacrament Kimanya secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Highway Kiganda in the ongoing 2024 USSSA Games at Sports Arena on Monday evening.

Blessed Sacrament played their last group game with a lot of swag and confidence as they secured the third win in as many games played.

Patrick Mark Kafeero fired Blessed Sacrament ahead with a direct free kick that left Highway’s custodian totally beaten.

Before the end of the first stanza, Joel Kyeyune doubled Blessed Sacrament’s victory with a simple tap in from close range after a team attack.

Blessed Sacrament went into the second stanza with a man less, not because they received a red but the coach decided to play the other 35 minutes with 10 players.

Even with a man less, Blessed Sacrament extended their lead with Arnold Kayemba’s spectacular finish that left Highway’s backline helpless on the floor.

After the final whistle, Blessed Sacrament head coach Abby Kakumirizi revealed that they are happy to qualify for the round of 32 however they will take one game at a time.

“We are happy to reach this level (round of 32) because it has not been an easy journey to reach this far,” he stated.

“I want to thank the players that have put up a great show to win three games in the group. We don’t want to say that now the target is to win the trophy because want to plan for one game at a time,” he added.

The gaffer also added that playing the second half with a man less was intentional because they wanted to reduce the tempo of the game and resort to possession.

Blessed Sacrament Kimanya will return to action on Wednesday as they play at the round of 32 in the ongoing championship.
