USSSA groomed athletes sweep National cross-country championship in Tororo


The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) trained athletes showcased exceptional talent and determination at the National Cross-Country Championship held at the Tororo Golf Course today, leaving an indelible mark on the prestigious event.


With a great performance that captured the essence of sportsmanship and dedication, USSSA athletes illuminated the competition with their outstanding achievements .National cross-country championship was used to identify athletes that will be used at the international level.

USSSA athletes demonstrated their prowess and mettle on the challenging cross-country course with other ones un matched .

Guided by their coaches the athelatics where top notch this was due to a three weeks training camp that unvailed talents , according to their head coach Rapheal Kassajja says that the camp was to useful to in the indefication proccess.

” It is the only way to go by starting at a high stage so that the future can be determined ,training according to the law of the game put Uganda on the next level because as a country we’re known for the best athletes .” Raphael Kasajja ,a coach.


From the starting to the finish line, USSSA athletes exemplified the spirit of endurance and resilience, navigating treacherous terrain and surmounting obstacles with unwavering determination.

With each stride, they propelled themselves forward, fueled by a burning desire to excel and a commitment to representing their schools and association with pride.

Their stellar performances, marked by speed, agility, and tactical prowess, earned them accolades and admiration from peers and supporters gathered at the Tororo Golf Club.


In the U15 women Faustine Chepteris from Kween district was spot on to win the race clocking 10:06.03 followed by Mercy Chemusto- 10:08.08 in the second position and Rispa Chekwemboi- Kween- 10:15.02 in the third position as in the U15 men Mathew Kiplagat from Kapchorwa won the race with 09:10.06 followed by Chemunumwa Lucia -Kween – 9:11.02 in the second position and Kenneth Bekele scored 9:12.05 in the third position.

Meanwhile, in the U12 boys category Kibet Celeb 02:57:01 won the race Sande Celeb 02:57:01 in the second position and Loout Kizito 02:59:07 in the third position in the same category girls shinned with a high speed as Chemutai Shirah 03:12:06 in the first position followed by Chemutai Esther 03:13:06 and Chebet Oliver 3:13:06 in the third position.

Patrick Okanya USSSA President emeritus cofirmed full support to these athletics and promised to organise these training camps on annual basis .

USSSA organised two athletics training camps in January 2024.

Their shining performances at the National Cross-Country Championship not only reaffirmed USSSA’s commitment to nurturing talent but also heralded a new era of athletic achievement and pride within Uganda’s secondary school sports community.

Both athletes received a new pair of shoes for their achievements.
