The Uganda Secondary School Sports Association, Uganda Primary School Sports Association (UPSSA), and National Sports Officers Association (NASOA) held a meeting on 8th January 2024 at USSSA offices to plan for the collaboration.

As an international norm one school’s sports federation in a country is recognized, though the partnership will serve in other areas like capacity building, training camps and administration and event management.

In his address, USSSA President Mugisha explained to the members present on why this collaboration is important and what the collaboration will entail.

Odong Sammy the Assistant Commissioner Physical Education and Sports told both parties that they must have a constitution.

“Take time while working on this new constitution, seek advice if and when you need it. We need to organize and plan because there are a lot of things you can do if we work together with USSSA” Sammy Odong, Assistant Commissioner Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports

During the Press conference today 1st February, Justus Mugisha, the USSSA President elaborated more about what the collaboration will serve. “Our partnership started last year, we offered Capacity Building training to teachers. This year, we will provide Administration and event management which includes the secretariat, media, branding, certificate and accreditation, Capacity Building training”. President Mugisha.

“We are going to form a joint sports federation that will unite us since one school’s sports association is recognized in each country at the international level” Justus added

“For capacity building training our target was to train 5000 participants but we managed to train 7524 trainees which was an achievement and 255 of these were Primary School teachers who were trained during the games in Mbarara in September 2023” President Justus Mugisha.

USSSA has advanced and trained 108 students and teachers for level II in refereeing and umpiring in football, volleyball, netball and basketball. It has gone forward to hold two athletics training camps at Old Kampala Secondary school (66 participants) and in Kapchorwa with 72 participants.

  1. what could be the challenge? Have the primary sector failed to manage primary schools sports issues?
my submission is let primary schools manage their issues and secondary schools also manage themselves
